Back to School Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt--Stop #4

Welcome to the inaugural Back to School Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt. We hope that throughout this hunt, you discover some new books and get to know a little more about us.

A few things before you begin:

This hunt is a blog hop. Collect the “clues” (pieces to the longer phrase) at each stop. Enter the individual giveaways along the way, then click on the link to the next stop and repeat until you reach #28, where you will input the full phrase as your entry to the grand prize drawing.

The hunt begins August 30, 2023, at noon EST and ends September 4, 2023, so you have plenty of time to visit each stop. If you need to step away and come back later, make a note of the last stop you visited, and go to this post with the list of all stops on the hunt.

If you are having trouble viewing the posts, you may need to switch browsers. Chrome and Firefox sometimes work better than Microsoft Explorer or Edge.

I'm so glad you stopped by!

My name is Jill Mai, although I use my full name for writing Jill Ann Mai. Somehow, despite the history classes I found boring in school, I have found a love in writing historical romance.

History was never my strength in school, but English was, and I would have to credit my English teacher, Mrs. Beckwith, for the love of literature. Up until that point in my life, I’d never met someone who was so passionate about the subject she taught that it became contagious. I found myself wanting to read every classic novel on my list. From there, the joy of reading blossomed, and though I never thought it would, writing did too down the road.

I’ve seen Mrs. Beckwith maybe one or two times since I graduated high school and only for a momentary “hi,” or “hello” when our family visits my hometown. I doubt she knows the impact she has made on me, but the next time I see her, I aim to change that.

Thank you, to all the teachers who have cared–who take the time to make sure their students “get it” before moving on and who aren’t afraid to go above and beyond the obligations of their subjects for their class. You are amazing and you are valued.

Now that you know a little about me, here’s a little about the book I’m giving away.

Abigail Thatcher is more than content living on her family’s farm in Massachusetts until the war she’s only heard about reaches her town. With her home lost, she leaves what she knows behind determined to find a new future while providing aid in Washington’s army. But will she be able to once she learns Garrett Ward, a man aboard one of the ships that fired on her town, is a camp prisoner she’s given charge of?

Orphaned at a young age, Garrett Ward owes everything he has to the Royal Navy. He dreams of becoming a captain of his own ship and is well on his way until the unexpected happens. Now captive to an army he little respects with the exception of one person—a person he’d never imagined he’d see again; he works to somehow make amends with Abigail while also having to face his past.

As Garrett works to find peace over his father’s murder and his own captivity, will he also be able to make restitution with Abigail for the destruction of her town and will she be able to accept the “olive branch” he’s extended?
